Cathy Burke owner of The Irish Pub in Atlantic City opened her business Wednesday to city families and residents for an evening of holiday gifting. Burke partnered with The Atlantic City Fire Department, Councilman George Tibbitt, Assemblymen Vince Mazzeo, John Armato and Friends in Action Inc. to give donations of toys, coats, and refreshments to those that are in need.

Brower, 51, runs Friends in Action, a local nonprofit that organizes community events and initiatives. In the past few months, the group donated 400 turkeys to needy families on Thanksgiving and provided hundreds of toys to children this Christmas. The toys were part of the group’s fourth annual “Mission: Santa’s Secret,” in which toy donations are solicited from area businesses and individuals and are distributed to children in need. Other events organized by Brower include a Hometown Heroes ceremony at Dante Hall on Feb. 26, which honors residents and businesses that assisted the community. The group also plans to have a Mother’s Day dinner and a fundraiser for the city’s recreation programs, among other events.
