Our Vision

The Vision of Friends In Action Inc. is for the uplifting of our friends and neighbors by one’s words, one’s deeds, and one’s ACTIONS.

Our Mission

The Mission of Friends in Action Inc., as a grass roots not-for-profit organization, is to strive to advance in the upward mobility of the community. As one of the pillars in the community, Friends in Action Inc. is here to ensure the social equality and rights of our friends/neighbors to be evenly met and achieved across various ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Friends in Action Inc. also looks to advocate for those educational and political endeavors that address the needs of the community from which we serve in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and beyond. We make it our endeavor that socioeconomic diversity is evenly met and shared among the majority.

"Friends in Action Inc. is one of the most extraordinary organizations that I’ve had the opportunity to be a part of, serving as a volunteer. With all the hard work and, effort the staff puts into giving others, it’s truly phenomenal."

— Barbara Johnson, Friends in Action Inc. Volunteer

Our ACTION

With our community in mind, we strive to focus on the needs of each community we serve. With needs ranging from food/ clothing to a helping hand, Friends in Action Inc. provides just that.

We are a group of local citizens working to ease the plight of the famished families in our communities by facilitating local food banks with the help of many local professional and governmental entities.

We recognize that we are not in this battle of poverty, behavioral health, incarceration, and educational challenges alone. After much thought, in 2015 a Councilman of Atlantic City, New Jersey and Friends in Action Inc. coined the phrase “Atlantic City Hometown Heroes”. Friends in Action Inc. then facilitated an action plan to show the community’s appreciation (as well as our own) and start an annual honoree event. After its first successful year, Friends in Action Inc. formed a committee that has made sure this event carried on annually as planned.

Atlantic City Hometown Heroes is a way for the community to give back to the people, businesses, and organizations that have served them. Each year, a selected number of individuals are chosen by a committee after nomination to receive various honors at this ceremony with twelve being Atlantic City Hometown Heroes. The Atlantic City Hometown Heroes honor is given to Atlantic City residents and/or business owners that serve the community and its residents. Honored to date are more than 300 honorees from its inception. With the help of Hometown Heroes honorees, we are able to win the fight.

Moving forward, Atlantic City Hometown Heroes will now be called:

Heroes of Your Hometown, allows the ceremony to be held in any municipality or jurisdiction.

We heard Santa Clause was coming to town! Santa’s Secret Workshop is ready, willing, and able to take on the task of providing families throughout seven counties in New Jersey with toys and items that continuously brings smiles and lights up the home of each family we visit.

For the last seven years, Santa’s Secret Workshop has partnered with local organizations and businesses to make this all come true for these families in need. We have taken nominees from November 15th through December 20th and have provided over two thousand toys to families per year. We also host an annual Toy Drive that gives to all children (who attend) in our communities so children besides nominated families are able to benefit as well. We like to say, leave the shopping to us Santa!

With events and programs ranging from a yearly Multicultural & Back to School Festival, Easter Egg Hunt & Run, Atlantic City Senior Citizen’s Prom, and Friends In Action Workforce Development Program, and supporting Atlantic City’s Unity Day, we like to give the communities we serve something to look forward to. These activities and events give our people a sense of HOPE and directly gives them added confidence that helps them achieve lifelong goals.

Friends in Action Inc. would like to thank the State of New Jersey for the many Recognition(s) and Proclamation(s) presented to its organization.
